Eight down...
5 wins.
3 Losses.
Coulda, shoulda, woulda....
Sometimes the true mark of a team isn't measured solely on the basis of statistics. Eight games in and we have learned some lessons. I have seen several players improve in areas that we recognize as needing that improvement.
12 games remain before the district schedule kicks off. It will be here before we know it.

It's here!
We will be loading the bus on Tuesday for our first scrimmage.
I can't believe that I said that. Didn't we start school last week? Well, at least two weeks ago. It must be the advancing age issue that we old-timers must deal with.
The Lady Coyotes have had some really good practices so far. We continue to focus on the "foundation" so we can build our house. I think that many of the girls have started to figure out that we can't put the wagon in front of the horse.
The Lady Coyotes and the Jr. High Ladies will travel to Blanket tuesday afternoon to scrimmage the Lady Tigers. Coach Wilson will have his girls ready to play.
I expect that our girls will be ready as well.

Go Lady Coyotes!
I just want to say that the Lady Coyotes are working hard to get better. The girls are enduring a hot gym during 7th period, but they know that this is the only way to reach our goals.
Our girls deserve the very best. We want to represent our school in a way that we can all be proud of. Part of that process is that we have to present the right image. We will have travel uniforms, team shoes, and a game day shirt. Sometimes the word, "fundraiser" makes folks run for cover. (I know that it had that effect on me sometimes) The fact of the matter is that if we want nice things, sometimes we have to do what it takes to get the job done.
Speaking of work........
One thing that I like about our team is that we don't mind doing a little work. The girls are selling discount coupons from local resturants such as Dairy Queen, Subway, and Ma and Pa's. Most of these are "buy one, get one free" types of discounts. The folks at Varsity Gold are helping the girls help themselves.
Our fundraiser will last until Sauturday September 24th.
Please consider helping the girls.
All you have to do is to ask any Lady Coyote about the cards.
They will be glad to tell you about them.

Lady Coyote Camp
I realize that this will be, for some of you, late notice.
Next week, Monday June 27th through Friday July 1st, we will have a basketball camp for all girls that were in grades 1-8 LAST year. The camp is open to all young ladies regardless of where they went to school, as long as they comply with the UIL grade restrictions.
The camp will start each morning at the Richland Springs gym at 9:00 and we will finish around 11:00. Fundamentals will be stressed during the camp. This is a basketball camp with the focus on learning. There is a release of liability that must be completed before any camper can participate. The cost of the camp is $30.00 and all campers will receive a t-shirt.
Look for the ad in the San Saba News.

Think about it.....
The Rules for Being Human
1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this time around.
2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a fulltime informal school called life. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.
3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial and error, experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately "works."
4. A lesson is repeated until learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.
5. Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive there are lessons to be learned.
6. "There" is no better than "here." When your "there" has become a "here" you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here."
7. Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.
8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
9. Your answers lie inside you. The answer to life's questions lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
10. This will often be forgotten, only to be remembered again.

I hesitate.....
To post these pictures.
They do the floor no justice at all. Mr. Clawson did a phenomenal job. He is a very gifted artist.
The final stages of the floor finishing process is upon us. The workers return tomorrow to apply the bright and shiny finish. (poly urethane)
The floor will need to cure for 7 days before we can begin our work-outs.
Mark down Tuesday June 21st on your calendars.
At 7:00 that evening we will have a team meeting in the gyn to discuss the upcoming weeks. It should last about 30 minutes and all present will earn 75 laps. If you can't be there, let me know asap!

Did you notice?
Something new at the top....
"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectivness..."
It seems to me that I can say or do anything that I want without having to stand behind it. Think about it. Many of us have become world-class excuse makers. For some of us, it is the best thing that we can do.
The lack of committment, the ability to draw back, and how it leads to ineffectiveness got me to thinking about.....
Basketball.
You were expecting something else?
Some of you ladies tell me that you want to win and you are willing to do what it takes to win. I believe you. I believe what you say.
So I hope that you believe what I say.
Your heart has to be in the right place.
You have to be committed to the game and to your teammates. You can say those words without any difficulty.
Can you stand behind those words?
How hard will it be to not make excuses?
For some of you, it will be more difficult than your heart will allow.
For some of you, this concept will make you not only a better basketball player, it will make you a better person. It will give you the opportunity to win on the court and in the class room. It will make you smile with happiness.
Who dosen't want that?

Progress
We are getting there.
Mr. Clawson is doing a fantastic job with the floor. When I was there earlier, he was working on the center logo.
Ya'll will be blown away.
I guarantee it!
You can forget what the floor used to look like. That memory is dead and gone. This new design will be the best in our district. We have to get to work and make our team as good as our floor.
We want to be the best.
We will have a sneak pre-view for just the basketball teams as soon as possible. I will be in contact with you as soon as possible.
Go Lady Coyotes!

How soon?
Well folks, the way things are shaping up is that we should be able to use the floor on or about June 20th. Please remember that this is strictly an educated guess on my part. The floor has to be idle for seven days AFTER the last coat of urethane is applied. I am anxious for the project to be completed, but we are going to follow this painfully slow process to it's conclusion.

The painter's tape can easily be seen from this angle. The blue tape will be removed and the lines will be good to go.

Summer Camp Info
I am working a complete listing of summer camps for our girls.....
Due to UIL rules, I can have zero involvement beyond these listings. Unbelieveable, but sadly true. I'm not sure that I understand the "logic" put forward by our friends in Austin.
Some of these start REAL soon, don't hesitate!
I will add links as they become avaiable.
Tarleton State (Stephenville)
Texas A&M (College Station)
Texas Tech (Lubbock)
Texas (Austin)
Don Eddy (Abilene, Athens, and Brenham)
Texas State (San Marcos) Adobe Reader Needed
Abilene Christian - Adobe Reader Needed
Baylor (Waco)

Inquiring minds want to know....
What's it going to look like?
The design that we expect to use can be found here.
Please remeber this is only a rough draft, but I expect the final version to be close to what you see at the link. One change will be the Coyote will be facing to the left, instead of to the right.
The lanes will not be painted. They are the most trafficted areas of the court and will show the wear sooner than I can for them to.
Does the name Clawson ring a bell?
We are pleased to have Coach Clawson's brother to work his magic on our new floor. Mr. Clawson is a very talented artist.

The floor looks different somehow...
As you can see, the gym floor is taking a dramatic turn for the better. The refinishing process has begun and before too much longer, we should have a complete job. We will have new lines, a new logo, and all of the old volleywball lines have been removed.

Out with the old, in with the new!
The old saying that goes, "the more things change, the more they stay the same" couldn't be more true when refering to the Lady Coyotes.
The great news is that our gym floor is being renovated in a way that has never been done in all of its many years of existance. We are excited that work has begun underneath the floor to firm up all areas of the hardwood. (in other words, no more dead spots!) The work should be complete before the end of the week.
Wait, it gets better....
In 1990 the gym floor was sanded down to the wood and painted. Some 15 years later, it happens again. Thats right, we will have new lines, new logos, and a new finish. Folks, this will be like a brand new floor.
Now the coach gets to be a tyrant when it comes to the gym floor.
....and I will be.

Seniors Gone.....
The Lady Coyotes bid farewell to four of their team members. Katy, Beth, Tessa, and Bethany were invaluable to the team. We will miss their personalities and their presence, but we are eager to prepare for the upcoming year. Voluntary workouts will begin as soon as the floor is available.
